Dragon and King

Most kings don't choose their role, it is thrust upon them by either fate or lineage, what they can choose is how to rule.
Ruling is not gender related
King = Ruler or leader
Queen = Second in command

While traveling the world living among humans and trying to learn their ways, I stumbled across a small castle and the old king who ruled it. This king had lost his queen and was tired and too old to rule alone and take care of all the creatures under his care. He wanted to leave his isolation in a castle too big and move to a room in town. So I gave him all the gold I had and promised to be a benevolent ruler of this land.
Becoming a king has certainly been a demanding and rough journey and not as easy as one might think.
If you too are a king of your castle and have been through some rough shit, come over for high tea some time, I'd love to hear your story.
My story is full of high expectations and hard lessons about the responsibility of caring for other creatures or just yourself, building an empire or just a home, saving the world or just the world of those around you and most of all, knowing who your friends are.
Hardest of all, in my role as a ruler, has been denying requests, and there were many.
Surprising of all has been the response given when a "no" is given to someone you have said "yes" to many times over.
I have welcomed into my life, my home and castle many creatures, some have stayed and some moved on, passed on, or crossed the bridge and burnt it.
As a ruler, I tried to give as much as I could, of the kingdom's gold, of my knowledge and all the time and affection I could spare.
Humans, I found out, set themselves apart from other creatures with a long list of words they call 'core values'. They are all important but can cause great conflict if you have not agreed on the same ones to hold above the others.
To my family, my guests, my friends, and visitors, I have chosen the following values above all others, I ask for communications with honesty and respect.
Unfortunately, demands with lack of honesty and respect will eventually yield a "no" and if that "no" is not respected either, ye shall feel the dragon's wrath. Basically I tell it like it is. Some would say that scorching those who are rude to you is rude, I would say, you are right, so I am working on championing my own values and communicating with respect and honesty as I give you the truth as I see it.
I am A. Dragon, I'm king of the Dragon's Lair and I approve this message.
