I don't often toot my own horn but recently I was flipping thru my photo albums focusing only on my accomplishments. And all statistics show, I'm pretty bad ass. I've always hated those parts of the job that required me to prove my worth by saying how great I was. But I feel this is a manly trait so I will embrace it as a dragon. Especially since no one is forcing me too. Here's a project that while officially failed is one of my favorites private successes, the BYT play patch. For a couple of years at the Bellevue Youth Theatre the crazy folks there let me run with this little side project to help raise funds for the Foundation selling patches with the logos of the shows (all done by a talented graphics artist they had on staff). They would not stop the current trend to make t-shirts, an offering to the fast fashion industry as theaters still do. But the patches did not catch, even with their self gluing backing they did match t-shirt sales and the project was dropped for good. I'm happy to still have mine, on a jeans library book bag from 20 years ago, (yes I was using reusable bags back then), and unlike the new reusable bags that many of my noble friends throw away when they get dirty, I throw mine in the wash and here it is, with some of the shows my kids were in during the years the project went on transporting me back in time, reminding me that during those years of volunteering I was also working full time, fostering and doing a bunch of other shit too.
I was eventually the odd man out of all the theatre parents, especially when they had me herding
in the last unicorn, uch, baby unicorns.
Go me. Thank you BYT.
A dragon.
